The Good. The Bad. The Ugly.
We all know that we are not promised tomorrow. Facts! Yet every day we are so hard on ourselves about everything we do.
Your plan: wake up, make your coffee and sit down to watch the news. Your dog is happy to see you and gets under your feet as you take those final steps to the couch and you trip… coffee goes everywhere. As you begin to clean up the mess you might think to yourself, “Is this what my day is going to be like”? It is in that moment you are considering that this one incident could depict your entire day. Hey, I’m not throwing shade as I’m guilty of this too.
I want you to think about something.. When things don’t go your way, do you consider it a bad day or just a bad moment in time? Even though terrible occurrences may take place consecutively, I assure you this will NOT last forever. The phrase “this too shall pass” comes to mind as I remember NOTHING last forever. We all have ups and downs. It is how we handle these moments that put us in control of our days.
Consider this: you wake up to a beautiful day. The sun beams through your bedroom window. The birds are chirping and the smell of coffee puts a smile on your face. You are not rushed to do anything today. You have the entire day to do all your hearts desires. Hiking. Biking. Surfing. Sailing. The choice is yours. You think to yourself “this is the life” until you have a flat tire on your way back home from your outing. How does this make you feel, Bad day or bad moment?
We love the sense of joy and happiness we feel when things seem to be going our way. It is the good times we must remember when something out of our control happens. We know it is possible to have these good times so we must look forward to them during the bad times. We need to be thankful for the good times even though they may be few or many.
I believe that we all want the power to direct our lives in the easiest way possible. The way we react to these frustrating moments tells us alot about our ourselves. I have a feeling that most people don’t like the sense of losing control over a situation. I know I don’t. It is this loss of control that sends us over the edge. If we could only take this moment for what it is… just a moment, we could get through it and move on without allowing it to put a damper on our beautiful day. Take a deep breath and remind yourself this is only temporary. Count to 10 if you need to. Hell count to 100 if that helps. Just remember this moment will pass.
The only thing I know with certainty is that there will be good times and bad. It is how I react to them that will shape my day. I know that I am in control of my thoughts and positivity has taken me a long way. I no longer have bad days, only bad moments in time. I hope this reminder helps someone in need. Just breathe.
