As most of you already know, I am 10 years older than my husband. Most people would say I am a cougar.
Cougar is a slang term for a woman who seeks romantic or sexual relationships with significantly younger men. Funny thing is, this is not true in my case. I do not fit this description at all. I was not on any mission to find a younger man to have sex with nor was I on the hunt when when I met my husband.
We actually met at church and dated for months before sex was ever discussed. We were married after 1 year of dating, had our first child one year later, a second child six years after that and have now been together almost 10 years. The use of the slang term may be funny for some to joke about but I do NOT like the meaning behind it.
When we met I was working as a Pediatric Nurse and loved my career but was not completely fulfilled. He asked me during our dating phase what I wanted from life. Well, see… I’m old fashioned so I said “I want to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen as long as I can” and he said “ok”. His “ok” was basically “Hold my beer and watch this” because within a year and a half I was just that. Retired after 20 years of nursing, pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen.
He is our provider, a Godly man, my best friend and a great father. So you see, if I was really a cougar… would he still be here? Would he have taken me to be his bride and the mother of his children?
They say older women seeking younger men are as follows: a jaguar is 50 and over, the cougar is in their 40s, and the puma under 40. I was actually mid thirties when we met so I was clearly not a cougar anyway. People are going to talk about you no matter the situation. So we are going to continue to live our best lives together regardless ❤️
All this to say… never judge a book by its cover. All relationships are different but true love will always withstand the test of age and time.
